What is Cortina Day?
Cortina Day is an event open to Ford Cortinas of all marks and models.
For a number of years before Cortina Day came into being, the South West Midlands branch of the Ford Cortina MkII & 1600E Owners' Club Ltd. held their annual branch event at Symonds Yat.
In 1992, in order to celebrate 30 years of the Ford Cortina, an invitation was extended to all other Cortina marks. This event proved to be so popular that the theme was continued in subsequent years, and eventually became known as Cortina Day.
In 2005, due to a decline in membership at local level, it was decided to close down the South West Midlands branch as it was not sustainable.
Before the branch was closed, an attempt was made to stimulate some local interest by creating an informal group for Ford enthusiasts, the Three Counties Ford Group.
This group is comprised mainly of past and present members of the Ford Cortina MkII & 1600E Owners' Club Ltd. All members are committed to Cortina Day, and would like it to continue.
Cortina Day will continue to be a Cortina orientated event. The autojumble will continue to be Cortina focused.
To all intents, the event will be the same, it will be organised by exactly the same people as before, in the same manner as before. It is just being done under a different umbrella.
Symonds Yat Leisure Park is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
